Gentlemen of the press, ladies and gentlemen we welcome you all on this annual special day of World Humanitarian Day 2024.
The Humanities and Social Development Initiative (HUWESDI AFRICA), is a prominent civil society organization registered with the Cooperate Affairs Commission, dedicated to the welfare of humanity,
Our Mandate includes :
i. To collaborate with relevant government agencies, public institutions, and other Non-governmental organizations to promote platforms that ensure citizens enjoy the dividends of leadership.
ii. To observe and play advisory roles in promoting Welfare-centered policies about social structures, sustainable development, Technology, preservation of cultural heritage, health, Education, and poverty alleviation schemes and render active assistance to affected citizens.
iii. To promote a synergy for community development, empowerment, and enlightenment on topical issues.
iv. To cater for the Welfare of the less privileged citizens of the Nation and render humanitarian services to the poor and needy in the society.
This day symbolizes a day set aside for the celebration of Humanitarian aid workers by the United Nations. World Humanitarian Day is a day to come together and show our support for humanitarian aid workers and for the people they are helping (humanity). It is a day to remember that we all as humans have a role to play in making the world a better place. The 2024 World Humanitarian Day has been adopted with the slogan NO MATTER WHAT: HUMANITARIANS DELIVER.
Historically on the 19th day of August 2003, a tragic bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq claimed the lives of 22 Humanitarian aid workers including Sergio Vieira de Mello the UN Special Representative of the Secretary General for Iraq. More also 19th August Carrie a global significance as the United Nations commemorates World Humanitarian Day to pay tribute to humanitarian service providers and the sacrifice of giving to the Needy with solidarity to vulnerable communities in Africa most especially Nigeria. As an organization we choose to also use this day to pray and reflect on our dear sister Liel Shuaibu (Humanitarian aid worker) who has been under the captivity of the Boko Haram terrorist group and we pay tribute to all the Humanitarian workers who have lost their lives in the course of provision of essential services.
The significance of these days includes ;
i. Expressing gratitude and appreciation for the work of Humanitarian workers.
ii. Raise awareness about the ongoing challenges faced by vulnerable communities around the world.
iii . Advocate for increased support for Humanitarian organizations and initiatives
iv. Taking rapid response actions to support Humanitarian efforts be it through volunteering, donations, or raising awareness campaigns. More also we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to look into the issues concerning special intervention programs in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation
finally We call on all security agencies to always prioritize the safety of Humanitarian workers helping the needy.
